On a scope- I like fixed power scopes and Weaver is supposed to have a 6x that may be better at 200 yards than the 4x. I want to bed the stock and figure the pillar bedding is the way to go so that is also part of the plan. I have a magazine article on reducing the trigger pull on the Remington- most folks think you have to buy an after market trigger- which ought to be more crisp but as far as trigger pull, according the the article, it can be done on the Remington trigger- so that is on the list- get the pull down to 2 1/2 lbs. In any event I was thinking about a 165 grain bullet for whitetail, hogs, maybe a black bear. I read someplace that a 165 grain bullet might be the most accurate for a 30-06 with what ever twist the 700 has.

I do reload for handguns and also a 30-30 Marlin and figure I'll reload on the 30-06 to hopefully get the best accuracy.
